So Labour's a full percentage point ahead of National. This pleases me. NZ First isn't in the powerful position it would like to be in, this also pleases me. the Greens remain in Parliament, which, since I voted for them, pleases me greatly. Nandor Tanczos, ranked at #7 on the Green Party list, will be losing his seat. That I'm not happy about, I like that guy. He said my music was beautiful when he saw me busking one night. Besides, having a Rastafarian with thigh length dreads who openly admits to smoking pot in Parliament is pretty damn wicked, I think.

But the important thing is, that smug wanker Don Brash is unlikely to become Prime Minister.

Like I said, it's not the final result, but close enough. I'm going to join M'colleague in town now. Apparently town's dead, and those who are out are nasty as all buggery, so I think M'colleague will need some support on the busking front.

Also, all election bullshit aside, it's Saturday frigging night, fuck staying at home by myself. I'm gonna go out and play some music and celebrate the likelyhood of Don Brash NOT being the Prime Minister.

Oh yes.

I shall take some brandy with me, play my flutes, get drunk(er), and tonight I'm playing for fun and not for money.

Having said that, if there's anyone from wellington reading this who wants to fling some shekels at a couple of unkempt buskers, we'll be in Cuba Mall or upper Cuba St opposite Midnight Espresso.

Good luck to you all.

G'night.

isn't this election scary and close. I am drinking to it, my election tradition.

AND I am Julia, I don't know why I haven't had you on my friends list for a long time. I have added you back on to it.

Sorry for my ramblings.

apparently the special votes are likely to go in the favour of the Greens, which would be a GRANDE thing.

Oh I fuckin' hope so, I want Nandor to keep his seat. I like him, on two occasions I've seen him giving change to a busker out of GENUINE appreciation ("your music's beautiful, man!") which got him my full support!

New Zealand Family Rights Protection Party

Is that the sort of people who define 'family' as "man (perferably white and Christian, but we'll take man in a pinch, but no FtMs) bossing around his wife and kids, and no, we don't mean 'wife' as in common-law or man taking the 'bottom' role of disgusting homosexual anal sex, thank you."

I have no fuckin' idea, I'd never even heard of them till tonight.

Nor, by the looks of the results, had anyone else.

What I got so far:

From http://www.answers.com/topic/new-zealand-family-rights-protection-party:

"It is based primarily around Pacific Islanders, and claims that the established political parties do not give sufficient consideration to the concerns of Pacific Islanders in New Zealand."

They have a Wikipedia entry with same text as above.

So, I guess they are defining 'family' in a different way than I thought. Sure are a lot of religious conservatives convinced they need to 'protect' marriage, though.

Interesting.

If I'd heard of them I still wouldn't have voted for them, but interesting. :))

I wish we had more than two (legitimate) political parties. I'm a Green; I wish we had a decent national showing here. There are some states where Greens do well. I also wish we had a Rastafarian with thigh length dreads who openly admits to smoking pot in our Congress. That woulld be wicked indeed!
